Fall Classic privacy policy
Effective October 28, 2026
Fall Classic is the app our group uses for the buddies golf trip. It keeps score, handicaps, drinks, friendly wagers, and a photo wall for the people in one event. This page says what the app collects, why, and who sees it. It covers the app only.
Fall Classic is built and run by John Hutchison, outwestlabs.io. TODO(John): confirm the legal name to show here and whether a mailing address is needed for the store listings.
Privacy questions: john@outwestlabs.io
What we collect
- Account. Your email address. You sign in with a password you set, or with a sign-in link we email you. On iPhone you can sign in with Apple, and Apple shares the email address you choose to share with us. TODO(John): Sign in with Apple is not live yet (waiting on the bundle id in task 6.3). Remove this line if it does not ship.
- Profile. Your display name, nickname, optional home city, optional avatar photo, and your GHIN index if you type it in.
- Golf. The scores you enter, the handicap rounds you post, the handicaps the app works out from them, and the rounds and events you join.
- Drinks. The drinks and waters you log, or that your group logs for a round.
- Friendly wagers. The wagers you propose or accept, the amount, the note, and whether each one is marked paid or conceded.
- Wall. Photos, captions, comments, and reactions you post, plus any reports or blocks you file.
- Device. A push notification token for each phone you use, and your notification settings.
We do not store your location. See the Location section for what the app uses and what leaves your phone.
How we use it
- Run the event: scores, the leaderboard, handicaps, the team draft, wagers, drinks, and the Wall.
- Send the notifications you turn on: a wager is proposed, accepted, or settled, a special hole is claimed, a draft pick is on the clock, and (if you opt in) the lead changes.
- Handle reports and blocks on the Wall.
- Fix bugs and keep the service running.
We do not sell your data, show ads, or run analytics tools that follow you around the web or other apps.
Location
The app asks for your location only while it is open: when you use the Near me course search on the Course tab, or when you open the yardage view.
Yardages use your precise position. The app uses it only on your device to show the distance to the front, center, and back of the hole you are standing near. Precise location is not saved.
For the Near me course search, the app sends your location to OpenGolfAPI rounded to about 1 km (two decimal places of latitude and longitude). That is enough to find courses near you without giving your exact position. We do not save it.
You can turn location off at any time in your phone settings.
Course maps use Apple Maps on iPhone and Google Maps on Android. Those maps have their own privacy policies.
Photos and camera
- Avatar photos are stored in a storage bucket that anyone with the link can open. Your avatar is visible to people in your events.
- Wall photos are stored privately. Only members of that event can see them, and the app loads them through links that expire.
- You can add photos to a Wall post only in the 24 hours after you post it.
- The app opens your camera or photo library only when you tap to add a photo.
Who can see what
- Members of an event can see each other's display name, nickname, avatar, home city, and GHIN index. In the events you share, they can also see each other's scores, drinks, wagers, handicap rounds, and handicap index history, and the Wall posts for that event.
- The commissioner of an event can see reports on that event's Wall and can hide any post in it.
- The app operator (John Hutchison) can read Wall posts and reports to handle moderation, across all events.
- Nobody else sees your data. Someone who is not a member of an event cannot see that event's scores, drinks, wagers, or Wall.
Who we share it with
We use these companies to run the app. They process data for us under their own terms.
- Supabase hosts the database, sign-in, photo storage, and server functions.
- Expo sends push notifications to your phones.
- Apple and Google provide the maps, and Apple provides Sign in with Apple on iPhone.
- OpenGolfAPI and OpenStreetMap supply course data. We send OpenGolfAPI course lookups and, for the Near me search, your location rounded to about 1 km. We do not send them your account details.
We do not share your information with advertisers or data brokers.
Course data
Course names, holes, tees, and map shapes come from OpenGolfAPI and from OpenStreetMap contributors. OpenStreetMap data is licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL). Attribution appears on the About screen in the app.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account is active and the events you were in still exist. Scores, handicap history, drinks, and wagers stay with the event record so the leaderboards and ledgers still add up.
Deleting your account
Open Settings and tap Delete account. Here is what happens:
- Your display name becomes "Deleted Golfer." Your nickname, avatar, home city, and GHIN index are removed.
- Your email address is removed from sign-in, every active session is ended, and the account cannot sign in again.
- Your Wall posts and their photos are deleted, along with your comments, your reactions, the reports you filed, and every block you set or that someone set against you. Comments and reactions other people left on your posts go with those posts.
- Your push notification tokens, notification settings, pending notifications, and handicap history snapshots are deleted.
- Scores, handicap rounds, drinks, wagers, draft picks, team and event membership, and drink bonus uses stay in the event record under "Deleted Golfer" so other people's totals and ledgers still work.
- If you commission an open trip, you cannot delete your account until you hand the commissioner role to another member or the trip is finished.
- Your open quick rounds are closed. Quick rounds are casual, so an abandoned one does not block deletion.
Your choices
- Notifications: turn each type on or off in Settings, or turn them off in your phone settings.
- Location: turn it off in your phone settings. The Near me search and the yardage view ask again only if you turn it back on.
- Profile: edit your name, nickname, home city, avatar, and GHIN index in Settings.
- Your data: email john@outwestlabs.io to ask what we hold about you. TODO(John): the app has no data export tool yet, so confirm you will send it by hand.
- Delete: Settings, then Delete account.
Children
Fall Classic is for people 17 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If you think a child has an account, email john@outwestlabs.io and we will delete it.
Security
Row-level access rules in the database limit each person's data to the events they belong to. Keys that can read everything stay on our server and never ship in the app. No system is perfectly safe. If you find a problem, email john@outwestlabs.io.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the effective date at the top and tell users in the app before the change takes effect.
